MMA dream match

Dana White is finally ready to put Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva in the same Octagon, admitting both men have cleaned out their respective weight classes.

St-Pierre extended his winning run to eight fights with yet another dominant defence of his welterweight crown against Josh Koscheck at UFC 124. Of all the 170lb title challengers, only Jake Shields can now make a reasonable case for a shot at the champion, with Jon Fitch, Thiago Alves, Dan Hardy and Koscheck all beaten.

Silva has never lost in the UFC since his debut in 2006. Chael Sonnen came close but still ended up beaten, making him the Brazilian's 12th victim. Only Vitor Belfort, at UFC 126, can now threaten that record.

UFC president White has been one of the biggest obstacles to a St-Pierre v Silva super-fight, previously insisting that the middleweight champion was too big for GSP. He also felt both men had to clear out their weight classes, but it would appear both fighters have - at the very most - one fight left before they make the most anticipated bout in UFC history.

"Every time a guy goes in and fights, there's always somebody there," White was quoted as saying by MMA Junkie. "There's always going to be new guys popping up, but when do you say the division is finally f****** clean?

"There's still going to be guys there and guys that have won. I mean, it's about time we say both guys have earned their dues. They really have.

"[Silva] is a guy that's wiped out an entire division. He really has. Anderson Silva, not only has he wiped out the 185-pound division, he also beat a couple of guys at 205. This guy has knocked off all the best guys. He hasn't lost a fight since 2006. It's almost 2011.

"[St-Pierre] has cleaned out the division now," White said. "Georges St-Pierre has beaten everybody. He lost to [Matt] Serra, but he came back and avenged it. That's what it's all about for me. I don't like guys fighting each other at different weights until they've done what those two have done, and they've both done it."
