Well I think it's just the wrong approach. People are just too negative, even when they try to do something positive. When they focus on what they want to change about themselves, they think more and more about exactly what they want NOT to do.
I have a better idea. Picture the positive attributes of life and focus on maintaining those. Then you're still using your mind to will yourself towards your goals, you're just not thinking about all the things you have to try NOT to do in order to achieve them. People need to readjust their focus from the hurdles that inhibit their progress to the wings that will carry them to prosperity.
The brain will naturally adapt and I bet you your revised "resolutions" are much more effective and enduring. Me, I like to keep it simple. Here's just a glimpse of some of the things I plan to keep around myself some more in 2011:

1. Ladies:

2. Success:
3. Wisdom:
I think this is a good start for any Real Dude trying to find success and happiness. Start short and simple, then as those things become more of constants in your life, start building bigger and better dreams... Can't lie to a Real Dude and tell him that the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the Moon...
Happy 2011!
Fantastic post!
ReplyDeleteMy new years resolution is to increase my knowledge in medicine and the world around me.
Also, with my mind on my money and my money on my mind as always.
LOVESS IT!!! It's Hip, It's Fresh, It's Gorgeous!!! [Tanya's Gay man voice]
ReplyDeleteMy new years resolution is get off facebook and read/draw more. I think I can handle it.
Also, FUCK BITCHES GET MONEY!
Nick-awesome post my dude, very insightful.
ReplyDeleteI think you have shared a great mindset-we as humans are much less likely to do something that has a restrained tone associated with it. For example, if your goal is "stop smoking", a cigarette has now become your forbidden fruit.
And just as Nick said, if we spin this to think of it more positively, we can do a much better job-"stop smoking" becomes "I'm going to be healthier because my good health will lead me to enjoy my time on Earth as much as possible." And this is a legit goal as opposed to just something you're not supposed to do.
I also don't understand why people have to do everything to the extreme and to cold turkey. Easing into something challenging will lead to much better results. Half the stuff we try to give up are very addicting, and instead of going cold turkey and losing sleep leading us to be more stressed, we should take it one healthy step at a time.
With that said, I have goals I share with all three of you-Increase knowledge in medicine, increase my knowledge of the world, read more, work on my screenplay, and as always, we can be good as the best of them, but as bad as the worst, so don't test us, real dudes GET MONEY!
Its actually a very widely believed pyschology theory that you mind doesn't compute "nots" and "wonts" it just focuses on what you dwell on and turns that into reality for the most part. So when you're telling yourself "I'm not going to smoke" or "I will stop sitting around waiting for something" your mind only catches " smoke" or "sit around". Positive thoughts are proven to be more powerful for change. My resolutions are get scary jacked (I mean straight Ronnie, not Pauly D), make another CD because I been feeling the itch, and to get one of those cool avatar thingys everyone on here has.....Rash, make that happen. oh yea and even though what we do is wrong, we get money till the sun comes up!
