i dont know what to think about this. My wife has tried to be vegetarian and failed, and i know theres no way i could do it, but this video got me fucked up. VERY GRAPHIC. dont know what to do. If any of you guy that read this are vegetarian or vegan, give me some ideas, cuz i dont even fuck with salads like that. I might go on a all protein shake diet from now on lol.
It was sickening watching that, but there's a lot of things that came to my mind while watching this:
ReplyDelete1. Notice how it's all white people doing all the kicking and beating of animals. Just saying, it's kinda obvious. lol.
2. On a serious note, although all this stuff seems cruel and sickening, we also have to consider that our population here in the US is large and very demanding for its food. With a growing population and increasing demands you are going to see this kind of behavior.
3. Our government does not regulate agricultural behavior and tactics the way it should. A lot of the stuff seen on the video can be prevented, however mass production of pork, chicken, beef, and dairy will have to continue like this.
4. On a side note, I worked at a research lab at UM and there's also cruel punishment handed out in those places to mice, rats, monkeys, and etc. I use to kill mice bare handed by spinning them on their tail, slapping them on the table, and then dislocating their spinal cord for a quick death. Yes, there's a more reputable way to kill mice, but it'll take 30 minutes and some trouble just to get it done, which is by going to the 7th floor animal laboratory, takes about 10-15 minutes just to change and be admitted, then putting the mice in CO tanks and killing them. It really isn't worth it cause the mice die peacefully by the snap of their spinal cord and its very quick.
I know our society needs food in a hurry and money is the fuel for all of those horrible conditions, but damn, the government needs to change that shit. Those fucked up ass farm workers taking out their frustration on these animals. When do one become such a heartless individual. I did some pretty fucked up shit in my youth, but that was to other people,
ReplyDeleteI agree it's some fucked up shit that they do to those animals. It's just cruel and inhuman.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the government is the one that's allowing this to happen. They are the ones saying "it's standard procedure" to do this to these animals.
And for your original question regarding vegetarian meals...try eating Halal meat or kosher type meats. They are better prepared and are not treated as cruelly (as far as I know).
Everyone wants to take the most efficient (aka quickest and cheapest) route to convert these animals from living creatures to food. And this is what you get.
ReplyDeleteThis will continue happening until the demand for more free range products causes the product price to be affordable. I agree with the both of you-it's cruel as hell, but sadly this is life.
It is an annual Islamic tradition for our second biggest celebration, Eid al Idha, to sacrifice an animal in the name of God (in the footsteps of Abraham). I had always seen it done in front of me, but this was the first year I actually helped out. Feeling life literally escape from underneath your hands is a feeling you never forget.
Moe, I don't know the regulations of kosher meat but as far as a meat being halal, I believe it's only got to do with how the animal is killed and not how it is treated. Here is a link on westernized method of killing versus islamic way of killing (it's from an islamic site, so take it with a grain of salt)

Let me know what you guys think. I'll talk more about research methods, maybe in another blog entry, because we all seem to be very interested in this topic.
