Here's an excerpt written by Hamid Golpira on the situation in Iraq. This shit is saddening. No one in the US even knows this happened and is going on. How the military can keep these kinds of shit secret is amazing.
"...And the Iraq war is also a war on the future since the U.S. military has used the mutagenic weapon depleted uranium, which is definitely a war crime, a crime against humanity, and an act of genocide.
The use of depleted uranium artillery and tank shells has given Iraqis genetic damage, caused a significant rise in birth defects in the country, and irreversibly irradiated large swathes of Iraq.
On impact depleted uranium is partially pulverized, producing depleted uranium dust, which is then carried by the wind, contaminating the air, land, crops, irrigation systems, rivers, wells, and other water supplies. Since depleted uranium dust can be inhaled, ingested, or absorbed through the skin, it is not safe for people to live in contaminated areas.
Some of these areas are so irradiated that they will be uninhabitable for millions of years. And this is one of the main issues of the Iraq war, but no one wants to talk about it.
Exposure to depleted uranium causes genetic damage, birth defects, cancer, immune system damage, and other serious health problems. In addition, many medical experts believe depleted uranium is the cause of Persian Gulf War Syndrome.
Physicians in Iraq have documented a threefold increase in childhood cancers and a fivefold increase in birth defects since 1990. The U.S. military first used depleted uranium weapons in Iraq in 1991..."
Article here.
Ma man, I remember reading about this forever ago and couldn't find the article! Thanks a lot for posting this. What a way to cripple a civilization...make sure your children's children's health is shot to hell...
ReplyDeleteSeriously....unleashing depleted uranium on people just to make sure their kids and grand kids are fucked...genocide at its best. Yet, we in the US, live in oblivion with what our government and military is doing in Iraq.
ReplyDeleteBut all this requires education.
ReplyDeleteEducation is the key. Educating the people of the world about what is happening through efficient dissemination of information is the correct path to take.
I couldn't have said that better...
To go from this article... I like to draw attention to the song "Testify" by Rage Against the Machine. The article mentions George Orwell's famous quote "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past"
FYI- George Orwell is actually a pen name, I forget his original name. But I'm sure if you look him up, he is a famous journalist that had an incredible awareness of social injustices around the world. I learned a little about him in my AFAM classes, makes me wanna get all AFAMie. haha
BUT SOMETHING that we didn't do in Afam... as I turn to Zack De la Rocha. One of my favorite singers of all time. He mentions the quote and elaborates on it...
"Who controls the past now controls the future
Who controls the present now controls the past
Who controls the past now controls the future
Who controls the present now?"
What he did at the ending is trying to throw everything back to the listener... whoever is in charge right for all, will continue to do so, and in order to change it, there is one way- TESTIFY!
And as the song introduces to you the answer of how to make testifying contribute to a revolution he says "We found your weakness and it's right outside your door, now testify"
What is outside your door people? YOU. IF we all come together. We all can revolutionize.
What is outside your door people? YOU. IF we all come together. We all can revolutionize.
ReplyDeleteAhh, the beginning of the revelation for revolution. I was brainwashed by my middle and high school teachers by the "facts" they taught in history. History is written by the winners. I am a firm believer in diplomacy (I know some readers, cough Johnny, will think that this is not enough to ever get anything done efficiently) and the first step in diplomacy requires education. For example, by posting this article Moe, you just shed light on a minimally covered topic on about 10-15 intelligent people. This is one of the main reasons why I started this blog, because we are the future of America, and we as the future need to be educated as much as possible on the present and past to make sure we learn from our mistakes - and most importantly, never repeat them for the future!
....easier said than done. I'm a realist as well.
"History was written by those who killed heroes."
ReplyDeleteSo what is it boys? Make history or die?
